Deck Construction Overview
-
The old deck was demolished and hauled off. It was too small and sectioned off.
-
New concrete footings were poured and later a concrete pad was poured at the foot of the stairs
-
Structural posts were attached to the footings to accommodate the increased load of a larger deck.
-
High quality pressure-treated wood was used for the underlying structure
Deck Construction Materials Detail
-
Composite decking of Ridgeline Trailhead series by Deckorators™ was installed using a clip system to hide the fasteners
-
Camouflaged screws were used for the picture framed deck construction layout.
-
Stairs were built to code for safety with side set fascia boards for a more finished esthetic.
-
Prestige 4” railings were installed all around the deck and stairs
Parapet Overview
-
A set of stairs going down to the parapet were constructed alongside in the same style and type as the deck.
-
The parapet serves as a secondary exit from the basement area. It is a safety feature and gives the basement more usable space for traffic. It also has the added benefit of letting in more natural light, to what would normally be an are surrounded by half windows or artificial light.
-
The weather and freezing temperatures played a part in choosing the timing of the project. Even so, we were able to complete the deck and parapet long before the deck would be needed.
-
Supplies were sourced locally and most were provided by our local KC Deck Supply lumberyard.
